Big Hill fire victim still hospitalized

A woman who was injured in a house fire in the Big Hill area on Monday night has been transferred to an out-of-area hospital, the American Red Cross said Tuesday.

Red Cross spokeswoman Debbie Calcote said she was not sure to which hospital the woman was taken.

The woman was initially transported by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center with "altered levels of consciousness," Tuolumne County Sheriff's Sgt. James Oliver said.

Her name was not available Tuesday but Oliver said she is 62 years old.

Calcote said the woman will stay with friends when she is discharged from the hospital, but the Red Cross will provide her with clothing and food.

Cal Fire Communications Officer Ed Allendorf said there were two other people in the mobile home when the fire occurred.

Calcote said they were the woman's caregivers and did not live in the residence.

The woman was concerned at the time of the fire that her shih tzu did not survive. Calcote said Tuesday that fire officials confirmed the dog died in the blaze.

The fire on the 22000 block of Dolly Lane was reported at 9:04 p.m. The mobile home was completely engulfed in flames.

Responding to the fire were Tuolumne County Fire Department, Cal Fire, Columbia Fire Protection District, Tuolumne County Ambulance and the American Red Cross.
