The identity of the man who died in an auto accident near Vallecito on Monday afternoon was released this morning.

David Garrett, 75, of Camp Connell, was killed at the scene and two others were injured.

The wreck was reported at 1:55 p.m. on Highway 4 near Parrotts Ferry Road.

According to California Highway Patrol, Garrett was driving his 2008 Toyota Prius eastbound on Highway 4 and drifted into the westbound lane for an unknown reason.

The Prius collided with an oncoming 2001 Dodge Ram.

The Dodge overturned in the westbound lane and came to a rest on the passenger's side. The Prius came to a rest in the eastbound lane.

Garrett was wearing his seat belt and his airbags deployed, according to the CHP.

The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, Marcello Bigotti, 51, of Walnut Creek, had moderate injuries and was transported by a friend to Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas.

His wife and passenger, Shirley Bigotti, also 51, was transported by ambulance to the same hospital with moderate injuries.

Marcello Bigotti said he and his wife were returning home after visiting their Arnold cabin.

"He just came right in on me," he said of the accident.

Both he and his wife were wearing seat belts, he said.

Three dogs in the couple's truck were uninjured.
