Armed robbery in Copperopolis

An armed robbery occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Firefall Jewelry store in Copperopolis Town Square, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office reported.

Police are looking for a man described as about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 30 years old, having a bruised eye, brown hair, medium build and wearing a red hat and black "sweat jacket.

The suspect displayed what a caller described to 911 dispatchers as "a round object" which he claimed to be a hand grenade and demanded jewelry from the store's display cases.

Police said the man took an undetermined amount of jewelry and walked away from the store. A

nyone with information to aid in the investigation is asked to call the Sheriff's Office main line at 754-6500 or the detective tip line at 754-6500. Hewitt said callers may remain anonymous.
