A Sonora woman killed Thursday in a head-on crash near Oakdale has been identified.

Joy Mariko Mata, 24, was identified Friday by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office.

According to the Modesto office of California Highway Patrol, Mata was driving north on Orange Blossom Road near Horseshoe Road at 6:36 a.m. when she allowed her 1999 Honda to cross the center line into oncoming traffic.

The Honda collided with a Toyota Tacoma truck, driven by Mark Oosterman, 40, of Riverbank.

Oosterman told officers he tried to swerve to the shoulder but could not avoid the accident.

Oosterman was wearing his seatbelt and had minor injuries. The CHP said Mata was not wearing her seatbelt.

The truck was going 40 to 45 mph, the CHP said. Mata's speed was unknown, but CHP reported clear weather conditions.

Both lanes of Orange Blossom were blocked while emergency crews worked on the scene.

The reason Mata drifted over the center line was still under investigation Friday, according to the CHP.

Investigators have not determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, the CHP said.

Mata was born in Los Gatos and lived in Sonora since age 5. She graduated from Sonora High School in 2006.

She is survived by a daughter, Makayla Mata, 6, who lives in Kona, Hawaii.
