Sheriff: Inmate tried to escape

A woman being held in Tuolumne County Jail on several felony charges allegedly attempted to escape from her cell this week, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Jail staff received an anonymous call about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday stating that Allyssa Ann Jensen, 23, of Sonora, had made a hole in the drywall ceiling of her cell and was planning to escape.

The cell holds about 10 inmates, according to Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Wilson.

Deputies discovered a hole large enough for a small adult to fit through above the cell's restroom area.

It appeared the hole was created by fingers slowly prying away the drywall over time, Wilson said.

The hole might have been created prior to Jensen's incarceration, or she might have made it larger, he said.

Jensen is facing additional charges of attempting escape and causing damage to a custody facility, he said.
