Alleged abuse victim dies

The Alameda County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy Monday on a Jamestown infant allegedly killed by her father.

Kalie Boehmer, 3 months old, remained on life support Thursday, authorities said.

She was pronounced dead by doctors at Oakland's Children's Hospital at 10:17 p.m. Tuesday, however.

The hospital has kept the baby on life support to preserve her organs for donation, according to Tuolumne County District Attorney Mike Knowles.

Although the hospital pronounced Kalie Boehmer dead Tuesday, the District Attorney's Office has not charged her father with the death.

Knowles said the father will face homicide-related charges after the infant is taken off life support.

When reached Thursday, Knowles said he did not know what the exact charge would be but said "assault on a child causing death" was likely.

Kevin Michael Boehmer, 26, of the 17400 block of Highway 108 in Jamestown, pleaded not guilty Wednesday during his arraignment in Tuolumne County Superior Court on a charge of assault on a child under 8 years old resulting in a coma or paralysis.

Boehmer was still in custody Thursday evening on the same charge.

Boehmer's bail is $200,000.

Boehmer was arrested after he took his daughter to Sonora Regional Medical Center at 9:50 a.m. Sunday because she was having difficulty breathing.

Hospital staff noticed several old bruises and injuries around the child's neck and chest and reported it to the Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Jeff Wilson said.

Boehmer was arrested for suspicion of willful cruelty to a child resulting in possible injury or death.

Because of the ongoing investigation, Wilson declined to comment on other evidence uncovered by detectives to support Boehmer's charge.

He said Boehmer has been interviewed but the Sheriff's Office is not yet releasing any of his statements.

Boehmer, a Manteca native, appeared to have recently moved to Tuolumne County from Aberdeen, Wash.

The girl's mother, Tiffany L. Tucker, is incarcerated in Washington State on charges of child cruelty or neglect, Knowles said.

Knowles said Thursday that Washington State had no birth certificate for Kalie Boehmer.
