Abused infant still critical

A Jamestown infant allegedly abused by her father remained in critical condition at an Oakland hospital overnight and is not expected to survive, authorities said.

Officials at Oakland's Children's Hospital declined to discuss the girl's condition beyond saying it hadn't changed since her admission Sunday.

The girl, 3 months old, is on life support, according to Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Jeff Wilson.

She was initially taken to Sonora Regional Med ical Center by her father, Kevin Boehmer, of Jamestown, about 9:50 a.m. Sunday because she was having difficulty breathing.

Hospital staff noticed several old bruises and injuries around the child's neck and chest and reported it to the Sheriff's Office, Wilson said.

Boehmer, 26, was arrested for suspicion of child cruelty. He remains in custody this morning on charges of child cruelty and is being held on $100,000 bail.

Boehmer, a Manteca native, appeared to have recently moved to Tuolumne County from Aberdeen, Wash. The mother of the child is currently incarcerated in Washington on child cruelty charges, Wilson said.

Boehmer is scheduled to be arraigned in Tuolumne County Superior Court today.

Boehmer's mother, Debbie Duval, of Tracy, reached by phone this morning, defended her son.

"It's all lies," she said. "That baby has never been previously injured by him or me."
