Plane crash reported in Calaveras County

A man died in a plane crash this afternoon north of Angels Camp.

The small-plane crash was reported at 3:46 p.m. to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department.

It crashed about a mile south of the county airport.

The pilot appeared to have been the only person killed.

He was identified at the scene by his son as Russell Hackler Sr.

An ambulance, Cal Fire and the Sheriffs Department responded to the scene. A investigator from the Natonal Transportation Safety Board was en route.
