Sonora El board has open seat

Brenna Swift, The Union Democrat

The Sonora School District is seeking to fill a vacancy on its Board of Trustees left by the departure of member Don Rolle, who joined the Tuolumne County Board of Education.

Candidates must be 18 years or older and live within Sonora School District boundaries. They must provide proof of residency, such as a utility bill, with their application.

No candidates for the Sonora Elementary board came forward for the Nov. 6 general election, leading the school district to advertise for the position. It interviewed one candidate last week but did not appoint her.

Sonora Elementary's Board of Trustees includes five members. Two, Joyce Lupo and Mark Plummer, had terms set to expire this year. They were unchallenged for the seats, and their new terms will last through 2016.

The three other board members are Rolle, Kathy Francis and President Casey Littleton.

The Board of Trustees holds meetings once a month and makes decisions on a range of district issues. Board members often attend special meetings in addition to regularly scheduled ones.

The Board of Trustees will interview candidates for the vacancy at 5 p.m. on Nov. 26 in the Sonora Elementary School library. Applications must be received by mail or in person by noon of that day.

For more information, contact Cathy Moss in the Sonora School District office at 532-5491, ext. 2001.
