Hurricane relief effort launched

The Sonora Area Foundation is accepting donations for disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Ed Wyllie, executive director of the Sonora Area Foundation, said it is coordinating with the nonprofit Council on Foundations to identify organizations that will receive the money.

One-hundred percent of the donations received by the Sonora Area Foundation will assist in recovery from the disaster, Wyllie said.

Community members can make donations by writing a check to the Sonora Area Foundation with "Hurricane Sandy Relief" written on the notes or memo line.

The checks may be sent to P.O. Box 577, Sonora, CA 95370, or delivered to the foundation's office at 362 S. Stewart St.
