Forecast: Rain, snow may haunt Halloween

Halloween revelers could get a trick rather than a treat as a rain storm is expected to arrive Wednesday night and stay through Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

The storm will drop temperatures in the foothills into the mid-60s during the day. Lows at night will dip into the low-40s.

That compares to the weekend high of 78 in Sonora and 82 in Angels Camp.

Temperatures in the Mother Lode will be slightly above average for this time of year today, but sunny skies are forecast to give way to clouds Wednesday with showers likely on Thursday.

There is a 30 percent chance of snow at 4,900-foot elevation.

Dodge Ridge Ski Area recorded 13 inches of snow last week but it did not last. As of this morning, the resort reported no snow at the base and summit. However, the resort expects to see new snow from the incoming storm.

After last week's rain and snowfall, Ebbetts pass remains closed. Tioga Pass and Sonora Pass are open.

As of Halloween last year, Sonora recorded 2.10 inches of rain while Angels Camp had 2.67 inches. This year has been dryer, with only 0.90 inch of rainfall in Sonora and 0.83 inch in Angels Camp.

Cal Fire has lifted burning suspensions and will allow burning on permissive burn days during specified hours with a permit. Call 533-5598 for burn day status in Tuolumne County and754-6600 in Calaveras County.

Caltrans advised motorists to prepare for the upcoming storm season and to have their vehicles winterized and to check road conditions before driving.

For road conditions, call 1-800-427-7623 or visit www.dot.ca.gov.
