Sweltering temps set for next few days

It may be fall, but summer-like weather will park over the Sierra foothills for much of this week, the National Weather Service reported.

The above-normal temperatures, brought on by a strong high-pressure system over Northern California, will bring temperatures in the high 90s to the Sierra Nevada foothills today through Wednesday, before falling Thursday and Friday.

In Sonora, today's high is forecast to be 98. Tuesday's high is forecast to be 97 and Wednesday will be 92. Thursday's high is set at 86 and Friday will drop to 81.

Twain Harte will be just 1 degree lower, forecasters said.

Calaveras County will be even higher. It is expected to reach 101 today in Angels Camp and 102 on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight lows will be in the low 60s.

The average high temperature in Sonora this time of year is 96.

Cooler temperatures could arrive by the weekend, with a forecast high of 79 Saturday and 77 Sunday.

This weekend Sonora's temperatures peaked in the low to mid-90s. Friday, the high was 91, Saturday the high was 90 and Sunday the high was 96.

This weekend in Angels Camp, temperatures peaked at 96 degrees. Friday, the high was 96, Saturday, the high was 94 and on Sunday, the high was 96.
