Tuesday night fire controlled quickly

Firefighters last night contained a Mountain Ranch fire that burned 23 acres.

The Michel Fire, centered on the 5000 block of Michel Road, was declared 100 percent contained about 6 p.m., according Cal Fire communications operator Ed Allendorf. One fire engine will be assigned to patrol the area today, he said.

The fire damaged a deck on a house and a barn, and also destroyed a pump house. No other structures were threatened and no injures were reported, according to Lisa Williams, spokeswoman for the Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit office in San Andreas.

A bulldozer, two air tankers, 15 engines and four fire crews were working the fire yesterday. The total number of personnel assigned was 140 at one point.

Participating agencies included California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; Central Fire, Mokelumne Hill Fire, San Andreas Fire, West Point Fire.

The fire was reported at 12:16 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.
