Gypsy Shack

opens

A new hangout spot has opened in the heart of downtown Jamestown.

The Gypsy Shack opened early this year on Main St. serves up coffee, hot tea, muffins sparkling apple cider and cold beer.

"It is not just a 'bar,' " said owner and Sonora resident Tina Shackley, 36. "It is set up to be a family hangout."

The business has a fireplace, fountain and wine barrel swing. There are also guitars and a piano for musically inclined customers to use. Artwork, classic statues fill the room along side a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and neon signs. Newspaper clippings and pictures of past Mother Lode Roundup queens adorn the walls.

According to Shackley, the building was built in 1854 as a hotel and is the oldest stone structure in town. The formerly two-story hotel burned down and now it is a one-story building with an indoor balcony.

The business is at 18145 Main St., next to the Jamestown Hotel. For more information, call 984-4445 or visit the shop's Facebook page.
