Grand opening

Cupcake Karma will have its grand opening event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Lighthouse Deli, 28 S. Washington St., downtown Sonora.

Free cupcake samples will be given to the first 100 customers, cupcake drawings will be held every hour, and a kids' cupcake walk will take place every half hour.

The featured cupcakes at the event will be peanut butter cup, salted caramel, white chocolate raspberry, and zen.

Owner Julia Clark established the business in 2007 and has been selling her specialty cupcakes at farmer's markets and local events for the past four years. Her homemade cupcakes have an artistic look and are made from gourmet ingredients.

Cupcakes can be purchased at the Lighthouse Deli for $3 each, $16 for six, or $32 for a dozen.

New businesses

Mountain Home Gifts is now open at 134 S. Washington St., downtown Sonora.

The store specializes in gifts that celebrate life in the mountains, including cabin style furniture, mountain themed artwork, local area travel posters, including Sonora, Pinecrest, Yosemite, and Big Trees, and history and guide books on the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, key chains, postcards, magnets and greeting cards related to Sonora are also available.

Owner John Williams grew up in Sonora and is also the owner of Bob's Greenley Pharmacy.

R. Chef, a culinary business specializing in simplifying the task of providing quality meals, is now open.

Owner Robert Jeske is offering his culinary skills to help families, individuals and groups with their daily and weekly meal, or special event planning.

Jeske has worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years and recently moved to Tuolumne County from Tahoe.

Open House

The 17th annual Chocolate Soup Holiday Open House will be held Friday through Sunday at 5009 Highway 140, Mariposa.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. each day.

Twelve decorated rooms will be filled with a variety of vintage, home and garden gifts.
