Local artist’s pottery on sale at Yosemite

Union Democrat staff

Artist Dana Morton will have her pottery, hand-painted wall art and ceramic pendants sold at the Awahnee Gift Shop and The Natural Shop in Yosemite National Park.

Morton, who has lived in Tuolumne County for more than 30 years, specializes in a line of ceramic pottery called "My Grandma's Linens," in which she uses old linens to make designs for her pottery. She began making pottery this way after she discovered a box of old linens her grandmother had made. Needing favors for her wedding, she decided to make little ceramic dishes with impressions of the linens on them.

Since then, she has continued making ceramic pottery with textile designs that she finds at yard sales, thrift shops and flea markets.

She teaches ceramic workshops at Mountain Oak Charter School and sells her ceramic pottery and artwork at businesses throughout the Mother Lode, including La Petite Maison in Jamestown, and on the Internet.

Throughout the summer, she will also sell her ceramics at the Tuolumne Farmer's Market Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to dusk and at Twain Harte's Thursday Nights Live from 5 to 8 p.m.
