Calaveras Visitors Bureau wins State award

The Calaveras Visitors Bureau will take home a Gold Award from the California State Fair for its interactive exhibit at the event. The Bureau also received a special award for the Best Use of the Fair Theme of "The Fun Just Got Bigger!"

The Calaveras exhibit at the event, which opened Thursday, July 14, features a clubhouse along with a five-hole miniature golf course that children and adults can play. On the first hole, the golfer putts the ball through a frog's mouth; on the 2nd hole, through a Big Tree, on the third hole, a wine bottle; on the fourth hole, around a mountain; and finally on the 5th hole, through caverns. Elsewhere, the exhibit highlights Calaveras-grown and produced items.

Volunteers staff the booth throughout the duration of the fair that ends July 31.

"This is the most interactive display we have ever done. On opening

day, there was a line of kids and adults waiting to play a round. This

is a great opportunity to capture their attention and let them know

about all the great reasons to plan a visit to Calaveras," Calaveras

Visitors Bureau Executive Director Lisa Mayo stated in a news release.

"Our builder did a fantastic job of taking our concept and putting it

into action."

Local sponsors of the Calaveras Exhibit include Once Upon a Time on

the Square, Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, Cave and Mine Adventures,

Scott's Yogurt Factory, La Contenta Golf Club and Gold Country Golf

(Greenhorn Creek and Saddle Creek).

Last year, nearly 750,000 people visited the California State Fair during its more than two-week run.
