"Mother Lode," a new episode of the "Road Trip" series with Huell Howser, will air at 8 p.m. Thursday on KVIE, Sacramento's public television station.

Huell travels to the historic Gold Rush region of the Sierra foothills visiting locations throughout Calaveras and Tuolumne counties.

While in Calaveras County, Howser visits Ironstone Vineyards, touring the 14 acres of landscaped gardens and tasting room complete with an oak bar that came from A.J. Bumps Saloon in Freeport, near Sacramento.

Built in 1907 by the New Brunswick Bowling Ball Co. in New York, the

tasting room bar sailed around Cape Horn to the saloon and found its

way to Ironstone in 1992.

Viewers also will get to listen to Bob Hartzell playing the fully

restored Alhambra Theater pipe organ. Built in 1927 in Van Nuys, the

organ was first housed in the Alhambra Theatre in Sacramento.

Last stop at Ironstone is the "crown jewel" of the winery - gold.

On display in the Heritage Museum is a 44-pound gold nugget, discovered

by the Sonora Mining Co. in Jamestown on Christmas Day 1992. This rare

type of gold called crystalline gold leaf is the largest specimen in

the world.

Howser also will visit Mark Twain's cabin on Jackass Hill, the

Moaning Cavern in Vallecito, the Calaveras County Fair Jumping Frog

Jubilee and many locations throughout the Mother Lode area.

The show also will air Thursday on public television stations in Fresno and Los Angeles.
