Crash claims life of Valley Springs man


A Valley Springs man died Monday when he was thrown from his motorcycle after crashing into a fence on Highway 26 east of Double Springs Road near Valley Springs.

A California Highway Patrol report states that Michael Weidel, 47, was driving west on Highway 26 at an unknown speed when he approached a curve.

For an unknown reason, the report states, Weidel ran off the road and struck a barbed-wire fence.

The crash remains under investigation. Highway Patrol officers have not determined the exact time of the crash, which was discovered and reported Monday night.

Weidel was pronounced dead at the scene.
