Three teenagers were in the Calaveras County Jail today on suspicion of holding up a Valley Springs convenience store last week and burglarizing a Valley Springs home on Christmas.

Jesse William Norried, Jerry Paul Warden III and Kyle Samuel Nelson, all age 19 and of San Andreas, were arrested last night in two separate apartments at one duplex on the 500 block of Pope Street in San Andreas.

"These three individuals were stopped shortly after the robbery," Calaveras County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Walker said of the Jan. 2 incident in which less than $200 was stolen from the La Contenta Village Mart on West Vista Del Largo Drive in Valley Springs.

The trio was questioned that evening and let go, Walker said. But sheriff's detectives continued to investigate, and gathered enough evidence to get search warrants, which led to yesterday's arrests.

Five homes in San Andreas and Valley Springs that are connected to the suspects were searched yesterday by the sheriff's SWAT team. A pipe bomb was found in one of the apartments, but was safely removed.

The men are also suspected in a Christmas Day burglary at a Valley Springs house. Walker said swords, coins and guns were stolen during that burglary, and some of the stolen property is still missing.

The same guns taken during the burglary including a shotgun and "Tech 9" machine pistol were used in the convenience store robbery, Walker said.

Two of the suspects, who were armed with shotguns, allegedly robbed the convenience store while the other, armed with the "Tech 9" gun, waited in a getaway car. Walker wouldn't say which of the men went into the store and which stayed in the car.

There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery, and no one was injured. The store clerk called the sheriff's department shortly after the incident.
