Board to get a visit

Congressman George Ra-danovich will visit Tuolumne County supervisors tomorrow.

The Mariposa Republican plans to give a presentation to the board on how some issues facing Tuolumne County are being dealt with on a national level, said Radanovich spokes-man Geoff Embler.

"He does this from time to time as there are issues to discuss," Embler said, adding that Radanovich recently visited the Mariposa County board.

Yosemite National Park, dams and the Emigrant Wilderness are among issues Radanovich will discuss with the county board, Embler said. He will also answer questions from board members.

The board will hear from Radanovich at 10 a.m.

The Economic Development Company of Tuolumne County will also make a presentation tomorrow.

EDC officials, led by president Barry Hillman, will update the board on what the company has done over the past year. The EDC helps Tuolumne County residents start businesses and learn management skills through classes and personal assistance. It is also involved in bringing new business to the county.

The county's preliminary budget allocated $20,000 each to the EDC, the Tuolumne County Museum and the Central Sierra Arts Council. But during August budget hearings, that funding was eliminated.

But EDC Director Elizabeth Jones said tomorrow's presentation will not include a direct request for funds.

"The timing isn't really right," Jones said, citing the county's fiscal shortfalls and the un-knowns, in-cluding how much if any money the county will get from vehicle license fees.

But just because the EDC is not asking for the money does not mean it's not needed, Jones said.

"We still have to figure out how we are going to sustain ourselves," she said.
