A Soulsbyville man died yesterday at a Modesto hospital from injuries he sustained in a head-on collision last week in Jamestown.
Michael Dale Pinard, 49, suffered chest injuries Thursday morning when his Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a Ford Fairlane on Highway 108, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The Fairlane's driver, 70-year-old Sonora resident Italo Antonucci, was attempting to turn onto Main Street from the highway and failed to see Pinard heading north, the CHP said.
Pinard was thrown from his bike, flew 50 feet in the air and landed face down on a dirt embankment, the CHP said.
An air ambulance transported Pinard, who had been wearing a helmet, to Doctors Medical Center of Modesto where he died three days later.
CHP officials will meet this week to decided whether a complaint against Antonucci should be filed, said Officer Tom Wills.
Antonucci suffered minor cuts and bruises and was treated at Sonora Community Hospital.
With Pinard's death, 26 people have now died on Tuolumne County roads this year, compared with 21 in all of 2002.
