Job Connection Calaveras moved from Angels Camp to San Andreas during the weekend.

The employment resource center and its collection of partners began moving out of the Angels Camp Professional Complex on Friday and were still unpacking boxes and hooking up the computer system when doors opened yesterday at the new location.

The new office, 700 Mountain Ranch Road Suite A, not far from the Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital parking lot, is about 3,000 square feet of open space and small offices.

Job Connection partners that also moved include the Calaveras County Economic Development Company, Employment Development Department, Experience Works, Mother Lode Job Training and the Calaveras Works and Human Services Agency-Employment Services.

While in Angels Camp, only some of these organizations were housed in Job Connection's building.

Now, said Job Connection One-Stop Manager Marilyn Conner, "we're all combining resources and working together to help people find employment."

Conner said that after five years, the Job Connection lost its lease in Angels Camp and couldn't find another space to match its needs.

"We really wanted to stay in Angels Camp because that's where the county's business center is," she said. "But the new space is friendlier and comes with plenty of access for people with disabilities."

Clients began arriving at the new offices yesterday, arriving before fax machines were operating or files were in their cabinets.

Resource Specialist Ernie LaCarra-Babor had seen three clients by 11:30 a.m. One needed job coaching, one was looking to change careers and one was simply checking out what kinds of jobs are available in the area.

LaCarra-Babor said the office sees about 20 clients a day.

Whether clients are workers looking for employment or training, or employers looking for workers, the partners in the new location offer a one-stop center of employment resources, Conner said.
