Call it a case of the crime coming to the cop.

Tuolumne County Sheriff's Deputy Frank DeRocher was on his way to talk to a Standard area homeowner who reported being harassed by a former friend.

According to a sheriff's report, about 8 p.m. Wednesday, while en route to the Valley Oak Drive house, DeRocher saw two men walking. They matched a description of two of four men wanted in connection with a theft earlier in the evening, so he stopped to talk to them.

The two Sonora area men provided identification showing they were Jonny Curtis Troy Livingston, 18, of the 20300 block of Eureka Drive, and Theodore Carrillo, 20, of the 20800 block of Phoenix Lake Road.

When the two said they were going to the same house DeRocher was headed for, the deputy offered them a ride, he wrote in his report.

Livingston and Carrillo declined when they learned they would have to be searched before getting into the patrol car.

So DeRocher drove off. When he got there, he asked the homeowner's teenage daughter if she knew Livingston and Carrillo and whether they were coming over to see her.

She told the deputy she knew them, but they were not allowed at her house.

DeRocher reported he had been talking to the homeowner for about 10 minutes when they heard a loud crash.

Everyone ran out to the back of the house to find debris from a broken arbor.

On the roof above the back deck, DeRocher reported seeing Livingston, and Carrillo was running across the roof to the front of the house.

While Carrillo ran, Livingston jumped down and smacked his face on a retaining wall, DeRocher reported.

When asked what he was doing on the roof, Livingston said he didn't know. The deputy handcuffed Livingston and told him to stay on the back deck while he went around the front of the house to look for Carrillo.
