Deputies found a Lodi man stabbed with the knife still protruding from his abdomen Saturday in the Burson area, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department said yesterday.

Donald Roy Snyder, 42, called 911 at 1:30 p.m. to say he had been stabbed in the stomach on Highway 12, east of Southworth Road. Snyder also reportedly told deputies he was stabbed by someone with whom he traveled to the Burson area to obtain automatic weapons and explosives,

Sheriff's reports said he was was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center of Modesto for treatment, but a hospital spokesman said there was no record of Snyder being treated there.

Snyder told detectives that he and two other men drove up from Stockton to obtain weapons in the Burson area, said Sheriff's Capt. Mike Walker. Investigators are still trying to determine why the three were trying to obtain the weapons, he said.

Walker said he didn't know if the group had previously tried to acquire weapons in the area.

Snyder used to live in the Burson area and was stabbed in front of his former residence, Walker said.

Authorities are still investigating why he was at the home, Walker said.

After the stabbing, the two men left Snyder on the side of the road and drove away on Highway 12 toward Lodi in a brown Cadillac. Walker did not provide any other details about the men including where they are from or whether police know who they are.

The motive for the stabbing is still under investigation, Walker said.
