Susan Pantel took refuge under an umbrella as she made her way to her car after work. It was the most rain on a July 29 in Sonora since The Union Democrat started keeping track during the winter of 1887-88. Lighting started several small spotfires throughout the foothills. A cool-down is forecast for the next few days, with highs in the 80s and 90s in the foothills and 70s and 80s in the high country.
