Man's condition critical after crash

A Jamestown man suffered major injuries today when his vehicle rolled in the Crystal Falls area, the California Highway Patrol said.

Greg Brewer, 38, was flown via air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with neck injuries. He was listed in critical condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Investigators suspect alcohol may have contributed to the accident, and Brewer was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, said CHP Officer Brad Schultz.

The accident took place about 4:10 a.m. while Brewer was driving south on Longeway Road, north of Hunts Road. Brewer's 1995 Chevy Suburban drifted onto the right shoulder, then swerved left across both lanes and off the road, where it hit a dirt embankment, the CHP said.

The Chevy then swerved to the right and back into the northbound lane where it rolled over, coming to rest right-side up.

Brewer's single passenger, Brian Vangorder, 38, of Sonora was uninjured in the accident.
