Calaveras County supervisors voted yesterday to renew an annual fee on developed lots that funds the county's solid waste budget.

The Public Works Department collects solid waste parcel fees to fund the disposal of solid waste.

The fee remains at $150 for any lot with one single-family house which is adjusted depending on how many families live on a property, and on the size of the houses or buildings.

Supervisors must renew the fees annually.

The fees usually cover the annual solid waste budget, which averages $3.3 million.

Money not spent on the budget is put into the department's Capital Improvement Trust Fund, which now has $4 million.

About $1.2 million will be put into the trust fund after this fiscal year because there hasn't been any significant construction in the county's solid waste facilities.

Public Works officials have said they plan to spend about $3 million from the trust fund to build a new refuse cell at the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility in Milton about three years from now. The cell would extend the life of the landfill another 10 years.
