Cowboyin' up

The spirit of the old west was alive and well at Tenaya Elementary School on Friday as kindergarten students celebrated the 2003 Mother Lode Roundup with their own celebration. Students dressed in Western garb competed in events such as a watermelon-seed spitting contest, barrel racing and a pony-lassoing competition. They had a barbecue lunch, square danced and heard stories of Western lore while gathered around a campfire. Riding a stuffed pony, Alex Barnes competes in the final round of barrel racing.
