It has been 13 years since planning fees have been adjusted.

That's why the Angels Camp Planning Commission unanimously voted last week to recommend a new fee schedule to the city council.

The proposal will get a first reading at the Tuesday, May 20, council meeting.

City Planner Amy Augustine emphasized that the fees are not being increased, just clarified.

Now, the city charges an initial fee and adds administrative costs and consultant charges. The bill comes at the end of the process, and the applicants are never sure at the beginning what the whole process is going to run them.

But under the new schedule, the total cost will be calculated up front, and fees will be paid at the beginning, which also means the city is more likely to collect those fees. In the past, if people's applications were denied, they didn't have much incentive to cover their costs.

"It should simplify the process," Augustine said.

The other item of business on the planning commission's agenda a request by the FHK Angels Camp Partners of Frog Jump Plaza to use an emergency access route off Highway 4 across from Foundry Lane South as temporary public access to the plaza was continued to the June 12 meeting.
