Police get tip on Laci

A woman called Sonora Police on Monday night with a possible tip into the disappearance of 27-year-old Laci Peterson of Modesto.

The anonymous caller said she saw a man driving a light-colored or silver truck pulling an aluminum fishing boat, about 9 a.m. Christmas Eve. The caller said she saw the truck near Phoenix Lake Road, headed east on Highway 108.

The tip is just one of thousands received since Laci Peterson disappeared.

Her husband, Scott Peterson, has told police he went fishing at the Berkeley Marina on Christmas Eve, and when he returned home, he could not find his wife.

Since the disappearance, Modesto Police officers and detectives have been searching for Laci Peterson, who was eight months pregnant with the couple's first child. Her due date, Feb. 10, came and went with no sign of the 27-year-old substitute teacher.

Scott Peterson owns a 14-foot aluminum fishing boat, and at the time of his wife's disappearance, he was driving a light brown 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Modesto Police have not declared Scott Peterson a suspect in the case, but have not ruled him out, either.

Last week, Modesto Police spent two days searching the Peterson residence and collected more than 100 items. They have also searched a warehouse Scott Peterson owns for his business as a fertilizer salesman. On Dec. 26, Scott Peterson's truck and boat were seized by Modesto Police.

Peterson traded in his missing wife's Land Rover a few weeks ago, and bought a new truck because the first one has not been returned to him. Last week, when police searched his house for the second time, they confiscated his new truck, as well, but returned it a couple days later.

The caller who said she might have seen Scott Peterson in Tuolumne County refused to give her name or address to a Sonora Police dispatcher.

The woman said she has been "very bothered about the sighting and felt like she just wanted the information passed on to Modesto Police."
