Red Dress Party is back as AIDS support benefit

Gary Linehan, The Union Democrat

Sierra HOPE will present its fifth annual Red Dress Party at 6 p.m. Saturday at Val du Vino Winery in Murphys.

Food, no-host bar, dancing, silent auction, prize drawings and music by Rock of Ages will be featured. Minimum age to attend is 21.

Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Proceeds will benefit AIDS services in Tuolumne, Calaveras and Amador counties.

All guests are encouraged to attend wearing a red dress, regardless of age, gender or sexual orientation. For those who are reluctant to wear a dress, the invitation to attend still stands.

"The Red Dress Party is no doubt the most unique costume party in the Mother Lode," said Jerry Cadotte, Sierra HOPE's executive director. "The red dresses serve as a powerful symbol of solidarity with people living with AIDS/HIV and remind us that we are all here to make a difference and support a common cause."

This year, Lunch Lady Catering will provide appetizers and a meal of roasted chicken with tapenade, heirloom garden vegetable salad, garden pesto pasta and freshly baked bread. Wine, beer and soda will be available.

Rock of Ages will play hits from the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

For those needing help finding a red dress, Sierra HOPE has a selection available at its office in Angels Camp.

The winery is at 634 French Gulch Road, at the north end of Main Street. For tickets or more information, call 736-6792 or visit
