Murphys Creek sets ‘Twelfth Night’

Gary Linehan, The Union Democrat

Murphys Creek Theater will present the William Shakespeare comedy "Twelfth Night" Friday through July 19 at Brice Station Vineyards at 3353 E. Highway 4, four miles east of Murphys near Forest Meadows.

This will be a new location for the troupe's "Theatre Under the Stars" productions. They had been held at the former Stevenot Winery since 1996.

Performances of "Twelfth Night" will be given on alternating Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate the winery's summer concert series.

Director Tara Kayton is setting this production in the 1930 American Dust Bowl.

"Using a vagabond troupe of actors, steamer trunks, and an old truck the group will create a world in and around the audience that will be both interactive and intimate," said Artistic Director Graham Green. "The group will engage Shakespeare's tale of love and loss with live instruments, witty banter and laughter."

Returning company members include Ross Aldrich, Misty Amber Day, Sheila Doyle, Graham Scott Green, Mat Hepgood, Sean Lewis, Sid Marsh, Jason "Clocky" McDowell and Robert Zellars, with new members Alyson Wren, Emily Graham and Taylor Hunt.

The house will open 90 minutes before the show for patrons to lay out blankets and chairs, enjoy food and wine and stroll the grounds. Brice Station will sell wine during each performance and catered meals will be available.
