Sierra Foothills Dance Club, a chapter of USA Dance, a nonprofit organization supporting dancing nationwide, will hold its fourth annual Sonora Ballroom Showcase from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Sonora Opera Hall at 250 S. Washington St.

Tickets for USA Dance members are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets for non-members are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

"Although this is a social dance showcase, some of the couples are accomplished competition dancers which will add to the artistry and enjoyment for everyone," said Ian Nandhra, owner and instructor at the Steps to Dance Studio of Sonora. "This year's showcase once again features junior, youth and adult social and competition dancers from studios from the Bay through the Central Valley to Sacramento, as well of course as local dancers from Tuolumne County."

In addition to preparing for the ballroom competition circuit, the local dancers will perform newly choreographed routines including jive, cha cha, quickstep, foxtrot, tango and waltz.

The Steps To Dance Studio will be well represented with numerous routines on Sunday. Students includeLars Johnson, mail room supervisor for The Union Democrat, Columbia College student Melanie Bruce, Dr. Marsha McKay of Mi-Wuk Village and Evelyn Mainguth, formerly of the Sonora Bridal Store, who is not only an accomplished dancer, but also a designer and seamstress for men's and women's ballroom attire.

The dancers representing Steps to Dance collectively received the "Top Studio" award at the prestigious Pacific Grand Ball in 2013.

On Sunday, dancers of all ages will demonstrate waltzes, foxtrots and Latin routines.

"You will be entertained by youth and adult social and competition dancers ranging in age from around 7 to 70-plus," Nandhra said.

Returning to Sonora this year after performing their routines in the 2013 showcase will be Sacramento's Malko Dance Academy and Malko Dance Studio, under the instruction of Sergey Malko.
