The Tuolumne County Arts Alliance will present its 17th annual student art show, "Tuolumne County Celebration of the Arts in Schools," through April 21.
An opening reception for the artists will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 251 S. Barretta St. on the historic Sonora Dome campus.
The reception will include student performances in voice, piano, violin and poetry.
Regular show hours are 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All Tuolumne County schools were invited to participate in the show, held in cooperation with the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools Office. Students in grades kindergarten through 12 submitted artwork. The art of the seventh through 12 graders was judged, with ribbons awarded.
Winners of the Best in Show are awarded free framing for their work and are invited to have it displayed in the Tuolumne County Supervisors' lobby for one year.
Past shows have been in many venues, including the local library, and is now held at the arts alliance's new home on Barretta Street.
The Tuolumne County Arts Alliance is a nonprofit organization whose missing is "To promote the arts and arts education in Tuolumne County, thereby enriching the lives of residents and visitors."
The arts alliance also operates Arts Reach to Schools, which administers a variety of programs in dance, theater, music and the visual arts at elementary and high schools in Tuoloumne County, and is the caretaker for a permanent art collection, including the George Post Collection.
