Stage 3 bringing ‘Harvard’ to Sonora

Stage 3 Theatre Company will open its 21st season with "Park Your Car in Harvard Yard" Friday through March 23 at 208 S. Green St. in downtown Sonora.

This also will be the first production for Stage 3's new artistic director, Van Gordon.

"This play shows human frailties in such a touching, warm yet hysterical manner," he said. "This production will definitely start the season off well and will have everyone wishing they had bought season tickets early - plus you'll enjoy the wonderful classical music."

Stephen Daly stars as the ill-tempered Jacob Brackish. He last appeared at Stage 3 as the Turkey Guy in "November." Other credits include "Hamlet," "August: Osage County," "The Diary of Anne Frank," "Inspecting Carol" and "A Man for All Seasons," among others spanningfrom San Francisco, Berkeley and Salinas to Murphys Creek Theatre, Sierra Repertory Theatre and Footlight TheatreCo.

Susannah Holland, co-starring as the revengeful Kathleen Hogan, most recently appeared in "The Autism Chronicles" in Angels Camp. She also has appeared in "Laundry and Bourbon," "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Romeo and Juliet," to name a few.

Holland has been seen in more than a dozen performances at Stage 3 along with being one of its stage managers.In January, she appeared as Nancy Kelsey in a rehearsed reading of "Women of the Bear."

Van Gordon attended Merced College, Columbia College and Sonoma State University before beginning his acting career.

In Tuolumne County, he has performed in more than 50 plays at Sierra Repertory Theatre, with lead roles in "Groucho," "The Nerd" and "The Music Man" being his most fondly remembered.

His work for Duende: Drama and Literature includes three summers at Yosemite National Park in the one-man historical drama "Friendly Fire."

Gordon's on-camera credits include the TV version of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," "Little House on the Prairie" and"Father Murphy," plus commercials and industrial films for companies including PG&E and Lucas Films.

His work for corporate comedy with Scander and Newman saw him traveling the world to perform in original shows for Apple, Hewlett Packard, Chevron and many others.

Gordon taught acting at the London School of Drama in Berkeley and at Summerville High School and the Connections Visual and Performing Arts Academy in Tuolumne.

Tickets to "Park Your Car in Harvard Yard" are $22 for adults and $15 for students. Season tickets also are available.

Curtain times are 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday.

Stage 3 also is seeking actors for its 2014 season and will hold several open auditions.

Auditions for "Becky's New Car," opening May 2, will be held March 31.

"On Golden Pond," opening July 11, will have auditions on June 9, and "Greetings," opening Nov. 14, will host tryouts on Oct. 13.

All auditions will begin at 6 p.m. at Stage 3.
