4-H dinner marks 41st year

Gary Linehan, The Union Democrat

The Tuolumne County 4-H program will host its 41st annual 4-H Community Dinner and Decorated Cake Auction on Saturday at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora.

The barbecued tri-tip dinner will served from 4 to 7 p.m. The dinner includes baked potato, green salad, dinner roll, beverages, ice cream and a cookie from Cover's Apple Ranch.

A vegetarian option is available by request.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children under 12 or seniors 65 and over.

Tickets are available from 4-H members, at the University of California Cooperative Extension office at 52 N. Washington St. in downtown Sonora or for the same price at the door.

Family tickets are $40 for up to five people, pre-sale and dine-in only.

Take-out meals are available with adult and child-senior tickets.

The popular decorated cake auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. 4-H members bake and decorate cakes of all sizes which are on display during the dinner.

There will also be a silent auction, displays featuring 4-H projects, and a poster contest.

The community is invited to bring small boxes of "kid friendly" cold cereal for the 2014 dinner service project.

4-H is trying to collect 1,500 boxes of healthy, low sugar cereal for the "Food for Kids" program of Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency.

ATCAA sends food home in backpacks for qualifying children in grades kindergargen through four at Tuolumne County schools.

Cereal donations may be brought directly to the dinner.

All of the proceeds from the dinner support 4-H youth activities in Tuolumne County for the coming year. All donations are tax deductible.

For more information, contact the 4-H Office at 533-6990.
