Twisted Oak Winery in Vallecito will open its 2013 Twisted Folk Concert Series on Saturday with a performance by the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band.

"Last year Peter Rowan performed solo at Twisted Oak to a very enthusiastic crowd. This year we're very excited that he is bringing his whole bluegrass band along with him," said winery owner Jeff Stai. "We are looking forward to a very different show than last year. It will be a lot of fun."

Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. with music at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the gate as available. Children 12 and under are free.

A Mexican dinner will be available for purchase, along with wine, popcorn and soft drinks.

Concert-goers are welcome to bring their own picnics but no outside alcohol is allowed.

Seating is outdoors, first-come, first-served. Guests should bring their own blankets and low-back chairs.

The concert venue sits on a hilltop with a sweeping view of the surrounding foothills, presided over by a 350-year-old California blue oak seen on the label of every wine bottled at Twisted Oak.

The Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band consists of musicians with over 100 years of combined recording and performance experience.

Joining Peter Rowan on vocals, guitar and mandolin are Michael Witcher on Dobro, Keith Little on banjo and Paul Knight on bass. They have graced the stages of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, Grey Fox, Merlefest, Rothbury Australia's National Folk Festival, and numerous other festivals domestically and abroad.

In September 2010, the band released their debut album "Legacy," featuring traditional and original compositions, which received a Grammy nomination, and was produced by Alison Brown and features guests Ricky Skaggs, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and Del McCoury.

Rowan is a Grammy Award winner with a career spanning over five decades. From his early years playing under bluegrass patriarch Bill Monroe, his stint in Old & In the Way with Jerry Garcia and his subsequent breakout as both a solo performer and bandleader, Rowan has built an international fan base through his continuous stream of tours and recordings.

Twisted Oak is at 4280 Red Hill Road, west of Parrotts Ferry Road. For tickets or more information, call 736-9080 or visit .
