Music

The Gold Country Singers of Northern Mariposa County will present their Holiday Christmas Concerts at 7 p.m. today at Greeley Hill Community Hall and 3 p.m. Saturday, at Coulterville Methodist Church. Annette Hutton will both direct and accompany the music. Eleanor Duste, Michael Kambeitz and Kathy Courtney will provide instrumental accompaniment of English horn, trumpet, French horn and violin. Admission is free, with a dessert buffet following each concert.

The Union Democrat will sponsor the 33rd annual Pop Hudson Memorial Christmas Sing from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Courthouse Square in downtown Sonora. A variety of community groups will lead the audience in song. Admission is free. The sing will be preceded by Galen "Mut" Mutzner's annual free bean feed beginning at noon at Washington and Linoberg streets in Sonora. The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Groveland will presents its ninth annual Community Christmas Music Program with song and narration at 6 p.m. Friday at 19585 Elder Lane. Admission is free. For more informatin, call Louane Anderson at 962-0540.

Country Cowboy Church will present The Wintons in an evening of gospel and traditional bluegrass music at 7 p.m. Friday at 14888 Peaceful Valley Road in East Sonora. Both Cody and Jesse Winton are 2010 California state picking champions. They have played with and opened for such renowned bluegrass gospel groups as the Kenny and Amanda Smith Band, Newfound Road, and Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out. STAGE

Children attending the Groveland Evangelical Free Church will present the Christmas musical "Josie and the Jinglicious Dream Lamp," a time travel family adventure, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. Sierra Bible Church will present "It's a Wonderful Life," a musical drama based on the classic 1946 Christmas film directed by Frank Capra, at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at 15171 Tuolumne Road east of Sonora. Art

The Calaveras County Arts Council will present its annual "Affordable Gifts of Art" show through Jan. 5 at 22 Main St. in San Andreas. A reception will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Columbia College will present Native American artifacts in the William Walter Collection through Friday in the Manzanita Rotunda on campus. Items on display include pottery, baskets, weaving, Kachina dolls, beaded ornaments and wearing apparel, dating from the early 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Art in the Library," a rotating exhibit at the Tuolumne County Library at 480 Greenley Road in Sonora, will feature four textile artists in December. All four - Jan DeShera, Lynette Eads, Susan Long and Constance Shields - are members of the Mother Lode Weavers and Spinners Guild. For more information, call 533-5507.

Renetta Hayes and Kathleen Davids are the Mother Lode Art Association's featured artists for December. Their paintings can be seen in the front windows of Servente's at 64 S. Washington St. in Sonora.

Arts of Bear Valley featured artists for December are Judy Morgan, who specializes in painting flowers, animals and local scenery in watercolor, and Deborah Kearney, who paints scenery and florals in watercolor and acrylics. Their works can be seen in the Window Gallery in the Meadowmont Shopping Center in Arnold.

EVENTS

Santa Claus will visit with children at Courthouse Square in downtown Sonora from 3 to 5:30 p.m. today through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday and 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.

The Horsearound Ranch in Soulsbyville will host its second annual Christmas Light Show from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is free, with donations accepted to benefit the Summerville High School Agriculture Program. Santa Claus will be present to visit with children. Hot beverages, light snacks and prize drawings also will be featured. For more information, call 928-3249.

"Poetry Night," an open reading, will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sonora Joe's Coffee Shoppe at 140 S. Washington St. in downtown Sonora. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Sonora will hold an Open Air Market from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Mono Village Center in East Sonora. For more information, call Al Smith at 532-0140.

The New Melones Visitor Center will sponsor a Natural Bridges Geology Hike at 10 a.m. Saturday. Participants will hike down to Natural Bridges and learn about the geology that makes the area so unique. Meet at the Natural Bridges Trailhead parking lot off Parrotts Ferry Road. Admission is free. Santa Claus and Friends will visit Rocca Park in Jamestown from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. This week Santa will arrive in a fire truck and a Sonora High School group led by Yvonne Denton will play, as well as other performers from the community. Church choirs are welcomeas well as non-singers and children of all ages.

Milk and Cookies With Santa will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Heart Rock Cafe at 1 S. Washington St. in downtown Sonora. For more information, call 532-7305.

Tuolumne County's annual free Community Christmas Eve Day Dinner will be served from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora. All are welcome, whether they need a warm meal, companionship, Christmas spirit, or all three. The dinner is supported by citizens, businesses, civic groups and organizations, including Interfaith Community Social Services and the Kiwanis Club of Sonora. To make a donation, volunteer, ask for a ride to the dinner or request takeout or delivered meals, call Cathie Peacock at 586-4802.

The Sonora Alano Club will hold a Christmas Potluck Dinner from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 19421 Village Drive in East Sonora. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. Murphys Friends will host a Free Christmas Community Dinner from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, at the Native Sons Hall on Main Street in Murphys.
