The Mother Lode Art Association will present its 60th annual Fall Art Show Saturday through Oct. 21 at the Central Sierra Arts Council at 193 S. Washington St. in downtown Sonora.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and admission is free.

A reception with wine and appetizers will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.Friday, with awards presented at 7 p.m.

A drawing also will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 for a painting donated by Judie Cain, last year's Best of Show winner, and other prizes.

Raffle proceeds enable the organization to fund its Columbia College scholarship and support of local children's outreach programs.

"Sixty years of presenting local and regional art to the community will be celebrated this year by the Mother Lode Art Association," said 2012 show Chairwoman Renetta Hayes. "This judged fine art show displays many works in all mediums."

Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded in seven competition categories - Acrylic and oils; water media; mixed media and graphics; three-dimensional; pastels; portraits and animals; and Foothill Favorites.

First place in each category carries a $100 prize, with $75 for second place and $50 for third.

Also awarded will Best of Show, $300; Mayor's Award, TBA; and People's Choice, $100.

This year's jurors are Peggi Kroll Roberts of Angels Camp and Georgia Herrick of Modesto.

The Mother Lode Art Association is a nonprofit organization founded in 1952 to promote the arts and appreciation of the arts in Tuolumne County. The group meets on the third Monday of each month.
