The Summerville High School baseball team was plagued by the top of the Linden batting order in a 13-2, run-rule-shortened loss on Friday at the Summerville diamond in Tuolumne.
With cleanup hitter Travis Shahan belting two home runs and driving in five runs, the Lions' top four hitters combined to go 7-for-13 with 12 runs batted in and eight runs scored, leading Linden to a 13-0 lead before the Bears collected their first baserunner.
Summerville starting pitcher Bubba Fristad yielded seven runs (six earned) on three hits and three walks in two innings of work.
Scotty Morrison made his second varsity appearance on the mound when he relieved Fristad in the top of the third, and after a shaky first inning (six runs), he settled down to retire six of the final seven batters he faced.
Nick Kautzer broke up Linden pitcher Jay Lamb's no-hit bid with a lead-off double in the third, eventually scoring on Casey Kerns' sacrifice fly.
Travis Ford accounted for Summerville's other run with a one-out home run down the left field line in the fourth inning.
Linden's victory, coupled with Bret Harte's 12-1 loss to Calaveras, vaults the Lions (9-5, 5-2) past the Bullfrogs (9-6, 4-2) and Argonaut (10-4, 4-2) in the MLL race.
Summerville (2-11-1, 0-6) visits Amador (5-8-1, 2-4) tomorrow before hosting Bret Harte on Thursday.
