Tioga’s Dauth, Ferguson earn MVL’s top honors

Tioga Timberwolves’ junior Katelyn Dauth earned Most Valuable Player and first-year head coach Tricia “Fergie” Ferguson was awarded the Coach of the Year for girls’ basketball in the Mountain Valley League for the 2012-13 season.

The 5-foot, 10-inch Dauth scored 20.8 points and grabbed 13.3 rebounds per contest. She scored 30 in a game twice, with a high of 34 on Feb. 5 where she also hauled in 21 rebounds.

Dauth scored in double digits in all but two games and grabbed over 20 rebounds in a game four times, with a high of 24 on Feb. 4.

She also blocked 78 shots on the season, just over three per game.

Dauth and Ferguson left lasting impressions on MVL foes and earned the league’s top awards despite finishing fifth in the MVL (10-14, 6-8 MVL).

On the MVL first team were: Brooke Allen, Lodi Academy, Taylor Martin and Jayla Patzer, of Stockton Christian and Asia Harris, of Delta Charter.
