Tioga golfers stumble in the rain

The Tioga High School boys' golf team dropped a rain-shortened, 127-144 decision to Central Catholic at Pine Mountain Lake in Groveland yesterday.

Danny Monroe and Jason Wiercinski paced the Timberwolves (5-9 Mountain Valley League) with rounds of 25 in the five-hole, par-20 event.

Monroe currently leads the MVL's most valuable player race with 68 points — ten better than second place. Monroe will clinch the MVP award before the April 29 MVL Tournament at Stevinson Ranch if he can stretch his lead to 14 points in the final three regular-season events because the top finisher at the MVL Tournament can only add 12 points to his league total.

Tioga is scheduled to host Gustine today at Pine Mountain Lake, weather permitting.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 127, TIOGA 144,

(Pine Mountain Lake, par-20, five holes)

Central Catholic—Dave Roberts 24, Chris Kelly 24, Steve Swanson 26, Phil Dutra 27, Dan Holdener 27.

Tioga—Danny Monroe 25, Jason Wiercinski 25, Rafael Kyllonen 31, Andrew Katosic 31, Andy Nickell 32.
