Tioga, Mother Lode soccer teams tie |
GROVELAND Archrivals Tioga High School and Mother Lode Christian School tied 1-1 in a Mountain Valley League soccer game Thursday on a wet, slippery Tioga field. Tioga is 6-2-1 in the MVL and 8-3-1 overall, while Mother Lode is 3-3-1 and 6-9-3. It was an end-to-end, entertaining game, Tioga coach Bob Roman said. Mother Lode led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Phillip Mattos. Tioga tied it on a direct kick by Ken Bujer in the 66th minute. Tioga was playing without five starters from its 6-3 victory over Mother Lode on Sept. 18 at Standard Park. We gave a fine overall effort, Roman said. Sean Rogers acquitted himself well in his first game in goal for the Timberwolves and Roman also credited Bujer with a solid showing on both offense and defense. Both teams are home Tuesday at 4 p.m. Tioga against Stoneridge Christian of Merced and Mother Lode against Stockton Christian. |
