TWAIN HARTE ADVANCES IN 9-HOLE PLAY

TWAIN HARTE has done it again in the Women's Nine-Hole Golf Association, winning a divisional playoff against Pine Mountain Lake of Groveland and Merced at the Oakdale Country Club.

A week after capturing the sectional title on its home course, Twain Harte outpointed its divisional rivals 7-6-5 to advance to a playoff against the East Bay, Peninsula and River division qualifiers Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Palo Alto Hills.

Team members are Capt. Thelma Adams, Grace Willis, Dorothy Whelan, Retha Aycock, Sharon Young, Sharyn Pendleton and Bev Olson.

Pine Mountain Lake was second and also advanced to the 17-team August tournament. Playing for Pine Mountain were Eleanor Ellis, Leanna Mattea, Yvonne Mattocks, Mary Reynolds and Harlene Wilson.

The Groveland club won the championship two years ago.

A HOLE-IN-ONE of Tiger-like proportion was made by Steve Bledsaw at Phoenix Lake.

Bledsaw used his driver to hole out his tee shot for a double-eagle on the par-4, 290-yard ninth hole. Witnessing the event were player partners Larry Bledsaw, Wayne Welch and Brett Warfield.

The ace was Bledsaw's second in five years.
