Rain did not dampen Friday’s day-long celebration held in honor of the Tuolumne County Aquatic Masters swimmers over the age of 75.
The deck party held after each workout, featured homemade brunch and lunch items made by the swimmers.
The TCAM team currently has 16 active swimmers ranging in age from 75 to 89. The swimmers in the senior age divisions swim three-to-six times a week during the regularly scheduled workouts. Many swim in lanes with swimmers two, three, four and even five decades younger.
By participating in the TCAM program, the swimmers not only exercise on a regular basis, but also stimulate their minds. Swimming requires participants to follow, and remember, the workout sets, and to use the clocks for pacing and interval training.
While exercising is important, socializing is a huge part of the program. Many swimmers have gained lasting friendships through swimming with the TCAM group.
The senior swimmers are role models and an inspiration for the other TCAM team members.
The honored swimmers over the age of eighty were Verne Scott, 89, Ken Mayhan, 85, John Holderman, 85, Sissy Mutzner, 85, Floyd Clark, 84, Bob Garretson, 81.
The 75-79 group included ML Chandler, 79, Cathy McDonald, 77, Toni Wivell, 77, Phil Reiss, 77, Hank Russell, 76, Dennis Honeychurch, 76, Judy Dean, 75, Lolly Owens, 75, Jerry Nielsen 75, and Dave Fairfield, who will be 75 in August.
Adult swimmers are welcome to join the TCAM program at any time. Contact Sonora Sport and Fitness for more information.
