FOLSOM The Tuolumne County Aquatics swim team took the Mid-Winter Plunge at the Folsom Aquatic Center and
posted 48 personal-best times.
Daniel Friel, Aren Forster, Elizabeth Watts, Austin Nieh, Nicole Henderson and Preston Hough led the way, with Friel and Forster (both age 11) swimming eight and nine bests, respectively.
Friel achieved BB times in the 50-yard freestyle (31.08 seconds) and the 500 free (6:31.56), the latter a 16-second improvement. He missed a BB time by only seven seconds in his first try at the 1,000 free
(14:11.67), but posted a B time and a team record in that event and posted another B time in the 100 individual medley (1:23.85).
Forster's best race was the 200 free (2:37.13), in which he dropped 26 seconds with a B time. His to total improvement in nine events was 47 seconds.
Watts, 11, swam seven bests including a B time with an 18-second in the 200 free (2:34.65). She also went B in the 50 back (39.01), 50 free (33.04), 100 IM
(1:16.48), and 100 backstroke (1:28.10).
In the 13-14 age group, Nieh and Hough achieved six and five bests, respectively. Nieh had BB times in the 50 free (27.76) and the 100 free (1:01.86) with a four-second improvement, and a B time in the 200 free (2:19.81).
Hough had B times in the 200 free (2:22.67) with a nine-second improvement, and the 200 IM (2:46.11).
Henderson, in the 9-10 age group, had six bests with a BB time and an 11-second improvement in the 200 free (2:48.53).
Also, Sammy Guthrie, 9, swam BB times in the 50 free, 200 IM, and 100 back; Meggan Wenbourne, 14, went BB in the 500 free; and Kaylen Hewitt, 14, had a B time in the 50 free.
Those with BB times qualified for the Sierra Nevada Junior Olympics, to be held at Solano College in Suisun City later this month.
