S’ville selling advance tickets to Wed. playoff

Summerville will host a CIF State Division IV playoff game for its first time on Wednesday and is offering fans the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance starting today at the school’s business office.

Tickets will be sold Tuesday and Wednesday until the close of business at 4 p.m. The Summerville box office will open the day of the game at 5:30 p.m. outside the foyer of the gymnasium.

The cost is $9 per adult or $5 for students and seniors over 65 with ID. Doors to the gym will open at 6 p.m. with tip-off at 7 p.m.

Summerville athletic director Debbie Mager has advised fans to come early to prevent any long lines at the door.

Meanwhile, the 2012-13 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champion Bears are hard at work preparing for Orland, which competes in the Northern Section.

The Eagles lost to Corning in the Section championship Saturday at Chico State University’s Acker Gymnaisium.

Orland had the score tied 43-43 late in the game before a 2-pointer in the final seconds gave Corning the victory.

“They are a quality team,” said Summerville coach Ben Watson, who watched film on Monday of the championship game Orland lost. “They are actually similar to a couple other teams we’ve played where they have one really good player (Jud Sailsbery).”

Sailsbery is the career-leading scorer in Orland High history and has been averaging 21.6 points per game this season.

The Bears saw a similar threat in Liberty Ranch’s Michael Meserole on Saturday, but Watson said Sailsbery gets more of his points off the outside shot as opposed to driving the ball to the hoop.

“We have to extend out there and make him move for his shots,” said Watson. “He’s very good with the ball so we need to just keep it out of his hands. Hopefully, we’ll be able to defend him better without the ball.”

Watson said part of the motivation to win Saturday was to guarantee another high stakes home game for the Summerville fans, who have made gymnasiums and arenas from Lodi to Sacramento feel like home to the Bears this postseason.

“The fan base has been so incredible this year,” said Watson. “Our fans deserve another home game because they’ve been so great to us both at home and on the road. It’s a tribute to our basketball team’s appreciation for their support.”
