Sonora High School opened the Valley Oak League swimming season Tuesday with easy girls and boys victories over Los Banos at Sonora Pool.

The girls won 130-27 and the boys 112-56.

Six varsity Sac-Joaquin Section qualifying times were posted by the girls, three in relays and three in individual events. Lisa Watts, Becky Clinite, Melisa Hough and Katie Baier opened the meet with a qualifying time of two minutes, 8.43 seconds in the 200-yard medley relay. Watts and Clinite are freshmen and Hough and Baier are sophomores.

Baier, Watts, freshman Heather Fisher and Hough swam another qualifier of 1:53.76 in the 200 freestyle relay, while the Baier-Watts-Clinite-Hough team qualified again in the 400 free relay in 4:10.30. They won each event.

Junior Alison Gourley posted qualifying times of 1:09.69 and 1:16.94 while winning the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke, respectively, and Baier swam Sonoras other qualifying time, 1:05.59, while capturing the 100 backstroke. Both of Gourleys times were personal bests.

Riley Marmesh and Matt Barnett swam section qualifying times for the boys, Marmesh 1:59.87 in winning the 200 free and Barnett 2:16.88 in taking the 200 IM.

Marmesh anchored 200 free relay teammates Robert Dickerson, Josh Land and Matt Yacovetti to a qualifying time of 1:42.38 and anchored Matt and Aaron Barnett and Dickerson to another qualifier of 3:47.33 in the 400 free relay. Sonora won both those relays and also took the 200 medley relay in 1:59.12 with Matt Barnett, Kevin Lancaster, Dickerson and Josh Land.
