Sonora's Janelle Hendrix has concluded a stellar softball career at Stanislaus State University as the Turlock school's single-season and career leader in nine hitting categories.
The senior second baseman set season records this year for home runs with nine, doubles with 15, runs batted in with 49 and slugging percentage at .564. She is the Warriors' career record-holder in homers with 20, triples with 15, doubles with 40, RBIs with 135 and total bases with 326. She is second all-time with 200 total hits.
Hendrix made the all-California Collegiate Athletic Association first team after leading the conference in RBIs, and she also was selected to the All-West Region second team.
She hit .319 this season with 15 doubles and four triples among her team-leading 65 hits, and was one of only two Warriors to play in all 65 games as Stanislaus went 30-35. As a junior, Hendrix helped the Warriors qualify for the NCAA Division II West Regional tournament.
The daughter of Sonora residents Rick and Rhonda Hendrix plans to graduate in December as a physical education major with a supplemental major in math. Before then, she'll make a summer tour of Australia with a U.S. all-star softball team.
Hendrix is a 1998 graduate of Sonora High School, where she starred in softball and basketball. Her younger brother, Travis, a junior, plays third base for the Sonora baseball team.
